Experience England’s largest lake in style
Take a nostalgia drenched break in the lakes, harking back to Windermere’s history of leisured ladies and gents playing about on the lake in elegant hand-built craft.
Storrs Hall has a history of being used for just that purpose, in fact it’s why it was built – an alternative holiday home on the water, when trips to the Swiss lakes became too difficult during the Napoleonic wars, (and so much easier to get to from Yorkshire). Wordsworth writes in his diaries about attending boat parties here, he was a frequent and enthusiastic guest in marked contrast to his reputation for being an introspective romantic poet.
Continuing in that fine tradition you can add a skippered private lake tour to your stay with us, in Abigail Leah, our vintage hand crafted Peter Freebody & Co Thames Slipper Launch – arguably the most striking boat on the water. Two hours enjoying the highlights of lake Windermere, England’s largest lake and second deepest, fringed by Temperate Rainforest interspersed by some envy inducing homes, (though none are as beautiful as Storrs when viewed from the lake).
We include a picnic lunch, and bottle of Prosecco in the tour; plus dinner in the lake view restaurant on one night of your stay. The lake tour might take you back to a rose-tinted time but you’ll enjoy all the 21st century luxuries that Storrs can offer.
Tours are available 1-3pm, and 3.30-5.30pm subject to availability, from £505.00 for 2 people.
*Remember if you want to dine with us, book in advance to enjoy the complimentary £10 per person towards your evening meal.
